Technology Neighborhood 1
As the first completed technology neighborhood, TN1 represents the heart of CU-ICAR. This 40-acre community is home to the Clemson University Department of Automotive Engineering and more than 20 global industry partners including BMW, JTEKT and Sage Automotive Interiors, among others. It also includes a host of amenities available to the campus including the St. Francis VRUM Fitness Center, CU-ICAR Café and multiple shared working and event spaces.

Technology Neighborhood 1
BMW Information Technology Research Center
Located at the entrance of Technology Neighborhood 1, the BMW Information Technology Research Center is an integral part of BMW’s research and development network. At CU-ICAR, BMW is working on customer-relevant innovations that interface the vehicle with its IT backend requirements.

Center for Emerging Technologies
The Center for Emerging Technologies (CET) is a 60,000 square foot multi-tenant facility that provides office, administrative and laboratory space for the transportation, technology and energy sectors. In the CET, 15 companies expand and develop technologies that complement the research of Clemson faculty and students.

Innovation Place
The hub of the neighborhood, Innovation Place houses the CU-ICAR Partnership Office as well as amenities such as the TD Gallery, the St. Francis VRUM Fitness Center and a rooftop garden. The Partnership Office conducts the business development, real estate, marketing and partnership management functions for the campus.

JTEKT North America
This 118,000 square foot building hosts JTEKT North America. Globally, JTEKT is a leading manufacturer of steering systems, driveline components, bearings, and machine tools, with operations in 70 locations.

One Research Drive
One Research Drive is the sixth and final building in Technology Neighborhood 1, located adjacent to the BMW Information Technology Resource Center. The four-story multi-tenant facility houses rentable space, classrooms and labs.

The 90,000-square-foot graduate building houses the Clemson University Automotive Engineering program. The building includes classrooms, office space, a 300 seat auditorium and various labs. Research includes industry-focused and interdisciplinary R&D across five research areas.
